  1. That would mean Israel would have to give the Palestinians citizenship rights. Israel most definitely doesn't want to do that, and it's a foregone conclusion that the Palestinians won't give up their desire for an independent state. Hence, the two-state solution.

  2. You'd hope the Israelis understand that "rehab" is needed afterwards, meaning serious diplomacy. If there's just a "surgical" intervention without any diplomatic follow-up, a new Hamas will spring up and our kids get to enjoy an encore.

  3. Just neutralise a threat, which is Hamas. At the end of the day, if Israel plays its cards right and restarts the stalled peace talks with the Palestinian Authority, they'll do the Palestinians a favour as well.
