  2. But the ensuing explosion is far less lethal. I would guess this was a 81 or 82 mm mortar shell. Its lethal radius is nearly ten times that of a hand grenade.

  3. Even with drones and fire correction, it's still hard to land a mortar shell this precisely. There was a measure of luck involved. Mortars haven't changed much since WW1.

  4.  @josephfilm73  Mortars always have a certain degree of inaccuracy. Even a GPS-guided mortar shell is accurate to 4m only.

  5.  @rasmuswittsell10  Our problem was that we had to blow a hole into the frozen ground, first puncturing it with a shaped charge and then by chucking in a block of TNT. It did make for a very sturdy foxhole.
