  1. Finland is a representative democracy. Referendums are held when an issue is contentious, or when the duly elected representatives of the people can't make up their minds. Neither was the case here. Besides, there would've been a backlash in the subsequent parliamentary election if the electorate had felt that their representatives had acted against their wishes. In fact, an MP that very vocally advocated against NATO membership was sent packing. I think you need to have a good cry. Oh, and don't upvote your own comments. It's seedy.

  2. Oh, it counts as a defeat if the oligarchs and/or siloviki bump off Putin and sue for peace. The peace terms won't be favourable to Russia, but they'll pin everything on the late Putin.

  3. GPS jamming by Russia is constant. About a year or so ago, I wanted to visit the grave of a former colleague in Oulu, Northern Finland, to pay my long-overdue respects. It's a sprawling cemetary, so his widow had given me the exact GPS coordinates. I found the grave, but according to Google Maps I was miles away.
