 @brunosmith6925 It's normal procedure. In WW1, they had enemy intersections pre-sighted and they would regularly spray them with plunging machine gun fire from several kilometres away.

The mortarmen still got lucky in that their target stopped moving at the right spot. Hitting a moving target requires impeccable timing.

@ABC.947-y3i That depends on the firing distance. We already had digital fire-control systems in mid-eighties, when I trained as a forward observer. I'm sure the Ukrainians have them, too.
