  3.  @paulf3353  Russia was defeated by Germany, officially in 1918, as it had sued for peace and agreed to the harsh terms set by Germany in the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. As to 1969, the First Chechen War does count as a Russian defeat. We can add 1807 to the list of Russian defeats. That was the War of the Fourth Coalition, in which the Russian forces suffered a rout at the hands of Napoleon at Friedland and Russia ended up on the losing side.

  4.  @paulf3353  The distinction is merely a technical one. It's rather like claiming that Milosevic's Serbia didn't suffer a series of defeats in the Yugoslav Wars, but Yugoslavia did. What would define as the successor state of the Russian Empire? The White Russian émigrés? They weren't winners by any measure.

  7. The oil depot was that of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Jet fuel is quite different from the heavy bunker crude that fuels warships.

  10. Knowing the Russians and their warships, it's bunker fuel, which has a high flashpoint and low combustion efficiency. It much easier to put out than, say, avgas.

No doubt the drone strike gave Russian naval commanders the jitters, but their Black Sea Fleet isn't good for much else than launching cruise missiles from beyond the range of Ukraine's standoff weapons. The Russians don't want another Moskva, after all. And the Ukrainian counter-offensive won't be stopped with cruise missiles.
