@johnwinter2252 No, it isn't. You must be confused by the German Panzer, which translates to armoured fighting vehicle in general. You'd raise eyebrows among the cognoscenti if you were to talk about infantry fighting vehicles, armoured personnel carriers and the like as tanks.

@johnwinter2252 The etymology of the term 'tank' is well known, but it doesn't prove your point. Do your research. I used to work for a defence contractor that made lightly armoured APCs, mainly for UN peacekeeping duties. Had I referred to them as tanks in front of my customers, I would've lost all credibility and never closed a deal. You may want to steer clear of defence industry jobs.

@johnwinter2252 Aren't you insistent. For all I care, you can call your wife your sister, but likewise, don't be surprised if people give you funny looks. Since we're on the topic of education, I have a double masters. And I'm a captain in the reserves. Until I transferred to artillery, I was attached to a tank brigade.
