How's that even remotely relevant? This is about an intensely jealous Russia taking revenge on Ukraine for striking up a relationship with the EU. Putin can't see the world in any other way than through his old KGB-issue Cold War glasses.

The sanctions against Russia have been in place for years, yet there's no sign of Russia bettering itself economically, despite numerous promises made by Putin about finally diversifying Russia's notoriously one-sided and thus vulnerable oil & gas-driven economy. Russia is and remains a giant with clay feet.

@ntf5211 I know Estonia's military quite well, being an honorary member of their home guard. Yet I don't know of any EU military bases in Estonia. Please enlighten us.

David (Ukraine) against Goliath (Russia) would be a smashing idea, but Russia doesn't want this war to end. Putin wants to keep destabilizing Ukraine.

The problem with your analogy is that Mexico would have to be dragged kicking and screaming into Russia's sphere of influence, and yes, such a blatant breach of sovereignty would be impossible to ignore for any country that calls itself independent. Russia can only hope to bully its smaller neighbours, because it has nothing to offer. No wonder they all hate Russia and feel compelled to make security arrangements that drive Putin up the wall.
