Rory, Trump's line that the US is paying the others' bills may go down well with his domestic supporters, but internationally, he makes Americans look like poor saps who can't negotiate trade deals. Apart from Trump, who has delusions of grandeur as a deal-maker, I don't think there's a leader in G7 who would oppose having the WTO go through all the various trade tariffs -- in the US and elsewhere -- and see what's fair and what's unfair. Trump must know that his claims about unfairness don't stand scrutiny.

  5. James, I'll leave your wishful thinking about Trump's grand plan for what it is. It's an entirely premature conclusion that the world is taking advantage of the US. That's for the WTO to decide, but Trump won't take his complaints there, because the likely outcome won't please him nor his supporters. So in answer to your question, the WTO is the solution.

  7. James, then what would you replace the UN with? I, too, find much fault with the UN, especially the Security Council and its permanent members, whose vetoes sabotage the whole organisation. I'm not just talking about Russia, but the US, too.
