  1. Don't give up your day job. Comedy is not the right career move for you. NATO's Stoltenberg has gone out if his way to reassure Finland and Sweden that they're more than welcome. It's said that Finland's Baltic neighbours will race to ratify Finland's membership. Finland holds the key to the Gulf of Finland, which is the only sea lane to and from Saint Petersburg, Russia's second largest city.

  2. Russians can no longer afford to visit Finland, no matter what. It's the sanctions that are killing them, and as a EU member, Finland has been sanctioning Russia since 2014. Also, rail and air links were cut shortly after the invasion. NATO doesn't enter into it.

  4.  @blintzkreig1638  *1939. To this day, the Russian desperately want to sweep the Winter War under the carpet. The war was a mistake of putinesque proportions, especially considering that the poor performance of the Red Army emboldened Hitler to attack the Soviet Union, their erstwhile ally.

  5.  @blintzkreig1638  Not so. Russia's objective all along was to capture the whole of Finland. Stalin pleaded with Hitler for permission to re-invade Finland after the Winter War, before Hitler turned on his dictator buddy. The Soviets didn't know that the Germans meticulously kept notes of all meetings.

  7.  @TheMerlin672  Don't be such a drama queen. Putin has commented on Finland's NATO membership many times. To paraphrase, first it was "it's up to you", then "it's up to you, but don't do it", then "it's up to you, but there will be some vague repercussions", followed by "you can't do that". Yesterday, his spokesperson Dmitri Peskov said "we'll see what toys NATO brings in and we'll match those". Conclusion? Russia knows Finland will opt for the Norway NATO model, meaning no permanent NATO bases and no nuclear weapons. In summary, nothing will happen.

  9.  @FRODIII  Finns have no use for bravado. A Finn would dryly note: "OK then, those Russians won't kill themselves" and then quietly administer the necessary ass-whooping. When foreigners line up to congratulate, the Finn would say: "Ta, have to go, the sauna's ready".
