  2. It's a tangled web. Russia is tight with Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, and the latter three are all chums with Hamas. Israel and Russia merely pretend to be friends so they don't have to duke it out in Syria, which would get ugly. And Israel likes to import cheap oil from Russia, probably below Russia's cost, but it keeps the Russian economy ticking over. For Russia, it's a match made in purgatory. For Israel, it's heaven.

  3. The UNSC and UNGA voting records suggest otherwise. The notable exception is, of course, the USA. Hence, Israel thinks it has carte blanche in dealing with the Palestinians.

  4. Explain to us the British angle here (I shan't ask why their intestines matter). I can think of many occassions where Britain supported UNSC draft resolutions condemning Israel's actions against the Palestinians -- only for the USA the veto them.
