I prefer eye-watering taxes of tobacco. Since we have universal healthcare, the tax revenue would pay for chemotherapy, radiation therapy and lobotomies (lung lobes, mind you, although the other variety could prove an effective cure for the underlying condition).

@MisterSands I wonder. There are many complications caused by smoking. Smokers who break a bone or have surgery recover slower and stay off work longer. Or it could just be the flu, which they catch easier and recover slower from. At work, we can't discriminate against smokers, but I've made sure applicants know about our policy toward smoking -- the strictest allowed by law.

@RawFestival My niece's daycare centre bars Snickers bars because they contain a deadly allergen called 'peanut'. What's next, Milky Way bars, because they contain milk and that's a potentially life-threatening allergen as well?

@Rhode-Island I can tell you're American. Mileages vary "in Europe". In the previous millenium, my neighbours used to smoke on the balcony, till that too, was forbidden. Now they go down to the courtyard, where there's a delineated area for smoking. Lung cancer corner, we call it.
