It looks like the Australian officials negotiating with their French counterparts were completely blindsided by the decision. In fact, only weeks before AUKUS was announced, the former expressed great confidence in the project. In other words, the Aussie defence experts got shoved aside by their all-knowing politicians. No wonder Australian defence procurement is a tragic mess.

@Courage2006 You're not very well informed. If a NATO member is subjected to an armed attack, the others must to come to the aid of the victim. You may want to educate yourself about NATO's Article 5. US military adventurism is another matter altogether.
