Why so? NATO just grew stronger. In the meantime, Putin's anti-NATO, the CSTO, died a quiet death.

Funny you should mention the Artic. Russia is about to be surrounded by NATO countries in the Arctic. If anything, that puts a damper on Russia's grand plans for the Arctic. Not that Russia would have access to the necessary technology anyway, with all the economic sanctions in place. Moreover, the Americans don't get "bring" military infrastructure to Finland, just like that. Norway, as a founding member of NATO, opted not to host any permanent NATO bases. As long as Russia behaves, Finland may very well follow suit. The US just has to grin and bear it. NATO is not the Warsaw Pact, after all.

@starvictory7079 Fenno-Scandinavian then. Scandinavian influence is very noticeable along the western and southwestern coasts of Finland. It has filtered through elsewhere, too. I bet you're just scared of the Forest Finns and their descendants. They're just part of the story.

Finland was the other pawn in Erdogan's blunt scheme to force the US to sell Turkey F-16s and F-16 upgrade kits. Turkey has now gained Biden's approval for the deal, but some US congressmen insist on seeing Turkey ratify Sweden's NATO accession before they approve the sale (I know, trust issues). Maybe Erdogan can still squeeze a token concession out of Sweden with regard to its Kurdish refugees, you know, for publicity purposes, but it's basically a done deal that Turkey "relents".
