It must be a fluke then that Europe tends to dominate all manner of indices that measure human achievement and progress. Perhaps you don't want to improve yourselves? If so, isolationism will serve you well.

@MMAmachinhead92 You consider human achievement a product of social welfare? OK. I posit that we spend a bigger portion of our GDP on NATO than you do -- that would be 2.4% vs. your 1.7%. Our figure would be considerably higher still if we paid our conscripts an actual salary, or fully compensated our reservists for loss of income while on refreshers. About your "defense umbrella", I saw a compatriot of mine claim that the US would have to recruit and train 50 million(!) reservists to match our reserve force -- prorated to population size, of course. I checked it out, and yes, it checks out. During my last refresher, I saw your guys fumble about on skis and complain about the cold -- it was a paltry four degrees centigrade below zero. The Russians would have you for breakfast.

@zorrofox8950 For your info, American football handball is rife with man-on-man physical contact. So, if you swing that way, you're more likely to get your jollies from American "football" than real football. And who cares which sport you prefer best. The world at large clearly prefers football.
