Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "EU leaders warn they will block AstraZeneca exports until bloc gets ‘fair share’" video.
@graveperil2169 Try to get it through your thick skull that the EU hasn't attacked AstraZeneca. Individual EU countries -- and a number of non-EU countries -- have voiced concerns about side-effects and suspended vaccinations temporarily. The EU as an organisation has been consistently supportive of AZ's vaccine. The EMA has not changed its stance after certifying the vaccine. Also, you ultranationalistic Brits keep forgetting that AstraZeneca is partly Swedish-owned. As it happens, Sweden was among the countries that temporarily suspended AZ vaccinations.

Who's we? Just speak for yourself.

@barendleroux6618 OK, I have you down as a an empty vessel.
3
No, we expect commitments to be honoured. Reciprocity, too, in vaccine exports.

@graveperil2169 Ursula is right to speak up about AZ's delivery failures and to insist on reciprocity. I can tell you her Swedish colleagues aren't happy either, with Sweden having had a rough time with Covid-19 as well. I bet the Swedes rue the day their Astra agreed to a merger with your Zeneca. So now you acknowledge that only certain EU leaders have been critical of AZ. Why don't you mention them by name instead of sloppily blaming the EU as a whole? You remind me of Russian and Chinese bots and their fixation with "The West".

You're not very world-wise. All countries have legislation in place to protect their interests in case of national emergencies. The Americans have their Defense Production Act, which they used to force Ford and GM -- car manufacturers -- to produce ventilators. It's irrelevant if the company in question is foreign-owned. Likewise, they blocked Philips, a Dutch company, from exporting their ventilators. No one's surprised but you.

@robharris8844U You're contradicting yourself. I assume you're referring to the EMA with your "European Medical". Without fail, the EMA has maintained that the AZ vaccine is safe. The EMA is the EU in this regard.
1
@robharris8844U But the EMA is the official "medical board" of the EU. Their assessment represents the official stance of the EU towards the AZ vaccine. I know that the following is very confusing to a Brexiteer who believes his own propaganda, but individual EU member countries can exercise sovereignty in these matters. You've witnessed such expressions of sovereignty, but in your confusion, you can't put them into proper context.

@graveperil2169 So funny. You Brextremists have to pretend that the EU is sore about losing you, but it's you who're still sore about losing Ireland. Well, you're about to lose the last bit of it.
1
@graveperil2169 What bill are you intending to send them and what for? Irish exports aren't tanking like those of "Global Britain" (sorry, I blew milk out of my nose laughing).
1
@howardmitchell9448 I would say the forecasts of the UK's speedy recovery have been greatly exaggerated. Exports just fell 41%, which is nothing short of disastrous. And that's just Brexit. Then there's Covid-19, which has ravaged the UK. It's an odd time to sing your own praises.
1
@howardmitchell9448 Ooh, what a cop-out. Ran out of arguments?
1
@graveperil2169 Yeah, about that. It begs the question why Northern Ireland underperforms under British tutelage while the Republic of Ireland goes from strength to strength economically. Ireland, a committed EU member, must also be an inconvenient truth to Brexiteers by quietly doing what "Global Britain" was supposedly to do once out of the EU. Except the trend -- Brexodus -- is the reverse.
1
@howardmitchell9448 Remind me to ignore you in case I forget.

@graveperil2169 Enjoy the fruits of your labour. Divide and conquer, a lesson the British Empire took to heart.
