  1. Not that I care one way or the other, but hasn't Texas contributed to the federal budget that paid for all the federal stuff?

  2.  @bobtrask2217  You must think the federal budget is an ATM. Somehow the money just materialises in there. Answer this: do Texans and Texas-based businesses pay federal taxes, yes or no? For your info, I have no romantic feelings towards Texas, independent or otherwise.

  3.  @trickslies844  Federal taxes would be relevant when determining future ownership of federal assets in Texas. Like most US states, Texas is a net payer in terms of federal taxes rather than a net beneficiary. In fact, it appears Texas contributes more in excise taxes to the federal budget than any other state, so a divorce settlement could favour Texas. Having said that, Brexit didn't turn out well for the Brits. Unknown unknowns, like Rumsfeld would say.
