  1.  @andymartinez767  It depends on the altitude of the balloon. Canada's CF-18s can't go as high as the US F-22s. Perhaps the former would've had to use an expensive AMRAAM to hit it, while the Americans got away with a cheaper, short-range AIM-9X. And maybe the Americans had some Sidewinders lying around that were about to expire.
