  2.  @Djamonja  Sure thing, France makes nuclear subs. Australia's sudden switcheroo from French to US subs had more to do with AUKUS. Australia got a security partnership and nuclear subs, in that order of priority. The interesting bit is that Australia never asked France to bid for nuclear subs.

  3. If you're referring to Australia's abortive French sub project, it takes two to tango. My former boss was a project manager for Australia's procurement of their Swedish subs. The TLDR version of the story is that Fawlty Towers-like, we had to warn our colleagues "don't mention the sub". He couldn't stop venting and his day would be ruined. He needed a whole bottle of Absolut to recover and this was in Saudi Arabia, which banned alcohol.

  5. You're ignoring the Dutch submarine builders. This will inevitably erode Dutch know-how.
