@Grogzter Isn't the point of exercises to prepare for the real thing? If so, the US Navy is ill-prepared for combating hostile submarines. Top US naval commanders have a reputation for neglecting anti-submarine warfare, which they don't consider sexy. Sure enough, in a shooting war NATO allies are expected to pick up the slack. One can only wonder that will happen if Murica entangles itself in yet another unpopular war, prompting NATO to stay out of the whole thing, and the enemy happens to have a capable submarine force.

Paul _ You didn't get the point. The US will get its fair share of nuclear Armageddon in the process. Plus you're tacitly admitting that you can't protect your carriers. And it's not just the Swedes who've put the US Navy to shame like this. A Dutch sub crew had T-shirts printed when they pulled off a similar feat.

@mrdankie3953 So you're theorizing that 2,500 sailors were cynically sacrificed at Pearl Harbor to ensure that Murica wouldn't miss all the fun of WW2? That's a doozy of a conspiracy theory.
