Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "Vladimir Putin refers to conflict in Ukraine as 'war'" video.
@proselytizingorthodoxpente8304 I suppose it's Putin's way of declaring 'total war'. Goebbels did same in 1943, when the tide of World War II was turning against Nazi Germany. Putin, too, wants all Russians to commit to the war, because supposedly Russia's existence is at stake (read: Putin's political future is at stake). The desperation is palpable.

It's less than what he'll get in The Hague.

Rather, I see a clear analogy between Putin's Russia and Nazi Germany. Russia has lost the war. Prolonging the war in Ukraine won't bring any benefit to Russia -- in fact, Russia will only suffer worse. Likewise, Hitler wouldn't give up, even when the Allies had entered Germany and he'd effectively lost the war. All that remained was buying a little more time for a dictator at great cost. Just like the post-war Germans, the post-Putin Russians will ask themselves what they were thinking.
