Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "It will take years to restore trust with Russia, says Turkey" video.
@TR-Youtube-Channel NATO expands by popular consensus. Sweden and Finland, both judged one of the most democratic countries in the world, are a case in point. Russia expands by force.

@mapa174 I wouldn't say so. Russian oil and gas are absolutely crucial to Turkey.

@mapa174 You're suddenly introducing the USA to the conversation. Try to stick to the topic at hand.

@sinanacar7564 That begs the question, what's keeping you? Europe is varied bunch. We've kept investing in nuclear energy and there's multi-fuel district heating, peat, biomass, etc. Over here, no one will grow cold or go hungry. The only (and relatively minor) drawback is higher energy cost. With a vibrant economy, we can absorb the hit. Can Turkey? Your inflation troubles are bad even without the war.

@sinanacar7564 Thanks for asking. We've already stopped importing Russian oil. For gas, we're getting a floating LNG terminal that will be in operation later this year. Anyone could weasel their way out of sanctioning Russia by arguing that their hydrocarbons are too important. However, your real problem is Turkey's chronically mismanaged economy. Yes, mismanaged, because Turks are one of the most business-savvy people on earth, yet you let your leaders hold you back.

@sinanacar7564 I told you, once we can replace Russian gas with non-Russian LNG later this year. How are your "plans" coming along?
1
@sinanacar7564 So I was right. You have no plans.
1
@sinanacar7564 I just told you we'll be set by the end of the year, and how we're going about it. Now, divulge your "plans" and your "timeline" for putting them into effect. Please, no more beating around the bush.

@sinanacar7564 They must be very, very secret then, because even a close confidant of Erdogan's, such as yourself, hasn't been briefed.

Putin is not going to live for another "2 to 3 generations" ;-)

Let's not ignore the fact that Turkey relies on Russia for 45% of its natural gas, 17% of its oil and 40% of its gasoline. Ergo, Turkey is very much funding the war against Ukraine.
