In truly democratic countries, we select our leaders in elections. In Russia, it takes revolutions.

Дмитрий Cоколов, you can have all the elections you want, but being a proper democracy isn't just about elections. Russia scores low in comparative reviews, with massive election fraud and the notorious Medvedev-Putin "tandemocracy" cited as the main reasons. Public confidence in state institutions is very low and the people feel disenfranchised by the political elite. Free speech is curbed and the media are controlled by the state. Critics of the government risk imprisonment or worse. Will that do or do I need to go on?

Дмитрий Cоколов, I'm actually referring to an EIU report from 2017, the annual Democracy Index. Their analysts have strict research methods and assessment criteria, while you have... your family. So Russia isn't the USSR, but democracy-wise you're in the company of developing countries, wedged between Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the rankings. To add insult to injury, many developing countries are making gains while Russia still sags from year to year.
