Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "'A grave historic error': Juncker hits out as North Macedonia and Albania have EU bids blocked" video.
This is inconvenient for the usual gaggle of anti-EU conspiracy theorists who insist that Juncker and Tusk dictate EU policy.

It's all good and well that Albania has Argentina's moral support. What they want, however, is monetary support.

Sadly, Russia and Turkey are basket cases in economic terms. China can't keep Hong Kong happy, so how would Albania fare in an union with China?

@AM-mu3pm Do tell why should I be envious of Albania, which ranks as one of the poorest countries in Europe. Oh, and buy yourself a dictionary.

@bbb-pj7tu No, my leaders were strongly in favour of Albania joining the EU. Only France objected -- for now. You're not up-to-date on the EU's inner workings, are you? Decisions need to be unanimous. Islamabad? We've had a far bigger influx of Eastern Europeans than refugees. They carry their weight, so I've no objections. We even joke about construction workers having to know Polish in order to be employable. It's just that the moment you hit a bump in your road to the EU, you immediately turn towards Turkey, Russia or China as an alternative. It suggests you've understood nothing about the European Project. I'd say your racism doesn't help matters either. Maybe authoritarianism is more your thing.

@bbb-pj7tu OK, now you've descended into the realm of conspiracy theories, where reality doesn't apply. Have fun with your fantasies. Dude.
1
@bbb-pj7tu We'll see what? A Greater Albania, choc-full of Chinese, Russian and Turkish military bases? You say you didn't mean it, but beggars can't be choosers.
1
@bbb-pj7tu Oh, Albania is delivering us from evil Russians. I thought NATO was. You suffer from jingoist megalomania.
1
@bbb-pj7tu Ooh, the megalomanic jingoist gets abusive. Did you buy yourself a dictionary yet?

@elagino2780 I'm not elated about how France handled the affair, but it shows how one EU member can throw a spanner into the works as decisions need to be unanimous. Blame where blame is due. Feel free to induct Albania into Mercosur and extending them a line of credit. Bombastic expressions of moral support only go so far.

Aw, sour grapes.
1
@AM-mu3pm Ah, I take it you're unfamiliar with the idiom. Anyhoo, I'm not sure I want to dangle any grapes in front of you. Albania is corrupt to the hilt and it remains to be seen if the EU can call a halt to it. Hungary's Orban has been getting away with it for years and the EU is practically powerless to stop him. Weak domestic institutions weaken the EU as a whole.
