  1. The Baltic countries and Poland aren't exactly brimming with NATO troops or weapons, to say nothing of nuclear weapons, which neither has on their soil. The NATO troops that are there serve as tripwires, leaving no doubt that Russia's aggression is directed at NATO as whole, should Russia be foolish enough to invade. Russia already has much more than tripwires facing them. You're a military dilettante if you don't understand Gotland's strategic significance. It's a unsinkable aircraft in the middle of the Baltic Sea.
