@nigelraporam6917 I served with Irish peacekeepers in Lebanon and although yours were fine soldiers in all respects, I do think Ireland is hiding behind mum's skirts in matters military. Don't you think it embarrassing that British fighter jets routinely have to intercept Russian bombers that stray into Irish airspace?

@nigelraporam6917 It's not NATO, but Russia that is dragging Ireland into a conflict. NATO or no NATO, you can't control your own airspace. It must be super-embarrassing that of all people, you have leave it to the Brits to do so.

@nigelraporam6917 NATO isn't dragging in anyone. If anything, Russia is pushing countries into NATO's arms. After Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Swedish and Finnish populaces grew strongly supportive of membership. Their politicians wanted to drag their feet for a bit, but when they realised there would be an electoral backlash, they went for it overwhelmingly. Democracy at work. It's said that if a country can't control its own borders, someone else will. So you've relinquished control of your aerial borders to your hated NATO, and more specifically, to your hated erstwhile coloniser. It's a mirror moment, but you blame NATO.
