  3.  @arisplugis5197  Don't rack your brain about it. ISIS captured the cities of Mosul and Ramadi in 2014. In doing so, ISIS ended up with a lot of weapons abandoned by the US-equipped Iraqi Army, much to the chagrin of the US. They went out of their way to bomb the captured M1A1 tanks. Apparently the Yanks did a good job at it too, because the Russkies couldn't produce a single one for this propaganda stunt. I bet Putin's propaganda troops searched high and low, because it would've been quite a coup. So, in summary, the circumstances in which ISIS gained Russian weaponry are strikingly similar to how they laid their hands on US weapons of war.

  4.  @cianakril  Your moderate rebels here would be the Iraqi Army, which is predominantly Shia in composition. They're known to fraternize with the Iranians, who're pro-Assad, and hence, anti-ISIS. It seems you're the one conveniently forgetting facts. As to ISIS not having modern Russian weapons, that doesn't appear to be true. ISIS reportedly has captured modern Russian anti-tank missiles and armoured personnel carriers from the Syrian Army. They're said to have used the former to destroy Turkish Leopard 2s, which can only be defeated by the very latest ATGMs. The type, the Kornet, also appeared in ISIS propaganda footage.
