The US is a de facto duopoly, which is only one step up from a one-party system. Not only that, it has led to extreme polarisation. Forming a government may not be the problem in the US, but governing is, and very much so.

@unconventionalideas5683 It's called forming a coalition government. You may want to read up on how parliamentary democracies work.

@1984isnotamanual You've got the wrong end of the stick. Polarisation is a direct consequence of an archaic electoral system. For historical reasons, a part of the Anglosphere still sticks with first-past-the-post voting, which favours big parties. Proportional representation, on the other hand, practically always leads to coalition governments. Political parties have to keep it civil, because after a parliamentary election, an opposition party may become a coalition partner.
