  1. What worked against wolves were traps and firearms. Dogs are merely an early warning system. They stand no chance against wolves. Every year, we have dozen of dogs fall prey to wolves. Hunting dogs, which seek out deer or elk, know better than to go after wolves, but the wolves seek them out. Many hunting parties have stopped using dogs, because they literally become dog food to wolves.
