@ajc8870 Dude, Le Pen's party is seriously indebted, first to a Russian bank and now to a Russian 'aviation parts' firm. If her National Rally were in power, France's public debt would go through the roof. Populists and power are a recipe for disaster.

@ajc8870 France's public debt is above average, but they're able to service it. Heaven knows what le Pen has had to promise Putin in exchange for not calling in her party's debt. Public debt (or the lack of it) is not the best of indicators for economic success. Otherwise, Russia's economy would be a smashing success while anyone can tell you it's a basket case. Sure, Le Pen talks about small government, but when in power, she'd be bailing out untenable French companies by taking on more public debt. Her base demands it. It's easier to promise the impossible than to deliver it.
