Russia is a modern-day banana republic.

@alexsilent5603 The real question is, why pour scarce funds into hypersonic missiles that have no civilian applications? They're vanity projects befitting a president-for-life of a modern-day banana republic. As for space rockets, you've clearly failed to grasp -- despite my earlier hints -- how Elon Musk just redefined space flight. All around the world, a deep sigh could be heard from the Russian space agency, who can't sell rides on their obsolete Soviet-era kit any longer. Sure, repressive despotic regimes could buy some extra time with nukes, but there's no room for such regimes in the modern world anyway. We've seen their long-suffering subjects express their feelings on the matter very clearly. Besides, Russia didn't trust the dictators in question with nuclear weapons either. How exactly are Trump's silly wall and the BLF protests holding the world hostage? The former only affects poor Mexicans who can't afford a plane ticket, while the latter have forced the more progressive among the former colonial powers -- which obviously excludes Russia -- to take a cold, hard look in the mirror. I call that a good thing.

@alexsilent5603 You're grossly exaggerating when you boast about Russia possessing the "most advanced technologies." With a wonky commodity-driven economy, Russia simply can't afford to fund weapons research that would allow it to maintain a commanding lead in just about anything. The best Russia can hope for is to maintain some degree of credibility in some areas. If Russian technology were so superior, wouldn't that translate to high-tech civilian products that would sell like hot cakes? I can think of none. Anyhoo, nuclear weapons do nothing to advance a country economically, as North Korea and Iran can attest. The contrary is true, nukes are an unwelcome economic burden for those who're saddled with them. At the end of the day, all they're good for are holding humanity hostage. And in case you haven't realized it yet, Russia's space might is crumbling right before our eyes. YouTube is full of it.
