Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "'Putin told me he did not want Ukraine to exist' - Former EU Commission chief, José Manuel Barroso" video.
@drakker2116 NATO didn't start the Yugoslav Wars. It did end the final episode, however. Finland and Sweden didn't ruin their relationship with Russia. Russia did by invading Ukraine. NATO members can act proactively in unison, but there's no obligation to that effect. Only invocation of Article 5 comes with an obligation to act reactively.

Explain this military adventure that has led to an economic disaster for Russia, to say nothing of the eye-watering military losses. It bears reminding that this was and is a war of choice for Russia.

And whose guys are you?

@ДОТА-ц3й So, let's recap. Putin starts a SMO, which he turns into a proper, full-fledged shooting war that ratchets up tensions world-wide, and you credit him with not starting WW3? Yours must be an 'In Soviet Russia' reversal joke.

You must've missed that Russia's Black Sea fleet has been rendered ineffective, since Russia can't risk losing more vessels.

@davidkottman3440 Russia will have its work cut out replacing the massive material losses suffered by its land army. The navy will not be priority, not for a long while. Also, Ukraine's relatively cheap missiles and drones will continue to pose a mortal danger to Russia's Black Sea fleet in the event of another conflict. Russia will have to do a thorough cost-benefit analysis. It doesn't look good for your ships.

@davidkottman3440 Duh, it goes without saying that when the war is over, the fighting stops, too. Also, you can bet your bottom dollar that whatever long-term peace agreement emerges from all of this, it will ensure unimpeded grain shipments from Ukraine by sea. With Ukraine in NATO, Russia will have to contend with NATO warships plying the Black Sea, too.

@davidkottman3440 Sooner or later Ukraine will join NATO. I wouldn't be surprised if Belarus and Chechnya also join NATO in a more distant future. The same goes for the likes of Kaliningrad, where people already harbour apirations to become the fourth Baltic country.

@Cocoluna66 Aye, there's that and China's moonbase on the dark side of the moon. But back to earth, why would Mexico want a Chinese military base? Why would it want to become an extension of China's foreign policy, which would only antagonise its neighbours, with whom it enjoys extensive trading relations? China, too, needs Western friends to export its way out of its economic doldrums. I realise you're trolling, so feel free to scurry off to your troll cave with a clear conscience.

@Jamie-uk2zh The overwhelming majority of the world's sovereign nations thinks otherwise. That's 146 out of 193 that recognise the State of Palestine. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
