The crew ingesting radioactive dust is the least of their worries. DU is incendiary, meaning it will momentarily turn the crew compartment into a blast furnace. You'll hear no complaints from the crew about radioactivity, or about anything else for that matter.

If there were a decent chance of Russia winning the war in Ukraine, it would not threaten with real nuclear weapons on a daily basis.

All shells are toxic. That's just the nature of high explosives. In France, there are WW1 battlefields that remain too toxic for agriculture and human habitation to this day. A great many of the shells were fired by the French.

@ruthlesstruth8639 It would seem you can't tell shells and kinetic penetrators apart. A shell -- which is hollow, as the name implies -- carries a payload, typically a high-explosive charge, which is toxic. Here, the DU is inside a thin dart, which contains no payload. The dart relies on kinetic energy and the density of its DU core in piercing the target's armour. Once through, the incendiary nature of DU comes into play, which means it will self-ignite and become a plume of burning dust. There will be mildly radioactive residue, but you won't hear the crew complain about. Either they were incinerated, shredded by spalling, or they succumbed to the shock wave. Or all three at the same time.

@ruthlesstruth8639 Sure, the DU contaminates the tank with mildly radioactive material. But you'll have to ingest it for it to have any nefarious effect. Don't go ingesting soil contaminated by toxic residue of high explosives either, because it's not good for you. Why the silly Hiroshima and Nagasaki reference? Has your overly fertile mind spun a story where I'm American, perhaps?
