I wonder what Orban got from his pal Putin for this. For his sake, I hope Orban didn't accept roubles.

Hungary was a client state of the Soviet Union, not part of it.

@nyali2 I'm sort of preoccupied as an active reservist in the armed forces of a front-line state. Orban is not pushing for a just and lasting peace. He's merely doing Putin's bidding in the latter's propaganda war. Interestingly, if Ukraine falls, Hungary will become a front-line state, too. Then the Hungarian wailing for help would become deafening.

@nyali2 Sure, the Hungarians were screaming for Western help then, too, and Ukraine was totally subjugated by Russia, even more so than Hungary. I think you just committed a false analogy. I'm training other reservists, if you must know, being over-age for combat. I already did my foreign tours, in Lebanon and Kosovo. And what have you done for world peace, except flapped your gums on YouTube in defence of dictators?

@magnacz Sure thing. I can't think of any European country that sought out to become a Soviet satellite.

@peterbalogh8138 Sure, Ukraine is heading for a defensive victory. Study the history of warfare and you'll find plenty of examples. You'll find even Russia congratulating itself over a particular one.

@peterbalogh8138 I'm sure the outcome of the Battle of Hürtgen Forest, which counts as a German defensive victory, perked up Hitler. Likewise, Napoleon enjoyed some defensive victories, although he clearly preferred to be on the attack. But Napoleon was involved in a great defensive victory: his ill-fated Russian campaign. Stalingrad, too, was a defensive victory, and the Battle of Britain. The Battle of the Bulge is another example. Be honest, you're not very knowledgeable about matters military, or you would be familiar with the term.

@peterbalogh8138 And now you're suddenly the expert on defensive victories. Likewise, it must've been news to you that there are battles, campaigns and wars, all of which can have different outcomes. WW1 was mostly fought in France, with Germany occupying large swathes of the country, a situation that persisted till the very end, till Germany sued for peace. That is the history that will repeat itself in Ukraine, with Russia suing for peace. The question is, will the Russians rid themselves of Putin before or after?

@peterbalogh8138 Once bitten, twice shy. If it's like you suggest, Hungary should know better than to stick around in the EU and NATO. Hungary is worse than the allegorical Brexit cat, which meowed loudly, but won’t go out through the open door.

@samanthaw4955 You don't want a just peace. Rather, you prefer to enable the hitlers of our time.

@peterbalogh8138 “History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes". Russia collapsed in WW1, too, and had to sue for peace, and the terms it got left little to the imagination as to whether it won or lost. The collapse of the Soviet Union, too, is often attributed to the Soviet-Afghan War. That was another defensive victory, by the way. This is turning into a real learning opportunity for you! If you look at the battles, the armies pitted against each other and the casualties suffered, WW1 was mainly fought in France.

You would've loved Chamberlain.

@anonymous-hz2un The EU pours slop into Orban's trough no matter what, it seems, while he needs to cosy up to Putin in earnest to get paid.
