  4. He's off on a tangent, but an interesting one. Russia suddenly doesn't recognise Ukraine as a sovereign state any longer, and Ukraine repays in kind. I believe the boot is on the other foot.

As a matter of fact, in our local language we call Russia by what would literally translate to 'Wendia' or 'Wendland' in English. We've never asked the Russians for permission. Old habits die hard -- in this case, very old habits.

  12. Hah, we'll see the same happen as in the Baltic countries. Once free from Russia, the Balts leapfrogged Russia in terms of GDP per capita. So will Ukraine. Of course, Russia is helping by racing to the bottom.

  13. I think it will prove a valuable rebranding exercise -- for Russia. Moscovia sounds a lot better than 'rump Russia', which is what post-war Russia will become after a great many of its republics secede.
