  2. It depends where you operate, and what the requirements are. Nuclear subs are surplus to requirements in the Baltic Sea, for instance. The Black Sea, same.

  3.  @Douglas850  Narrowness of the seas has nothing to do with it. If you need to stay submerged for extended periods of time, you need to go nuclear or fit AIP.

  4. Because Russia has become an undependable supplier. It's reneging on existing contracts because it can't piece its kit together without advanced Western technology. Foreign buyers in particular are not risking sanctions themselves by buying sanctioned technology. The West's military industry is very thankful to Putin for kicking off global rearmament and for Russia effectively exiting the international arms market.

  5. You just exposed your n00bness. Diesel subs would've sunk Murica's aircraft carriers, had there been a real conflict that pitted the two against one another. Ask the Swedes and the Dutch, they can't help smirking.
