"Violence doesn't make sense for democracy!"... I agree, but what has that got to do with China?

@jimwong2269 Deng Xiaoping deserves credit where credit is due, but with Xi in charge, China has taken strides democracy-wise... backward, not forward. Besides, I highly doubt the Chinese will be as patient as you claim.

@jimwong2269 Like I wrote, I highly doubt that the Chinese will have that much patience. We've seen it all before. South Korea emerged a de-facto dictatorship from the Korean War, yet when their economy boomed, the calls for democracy became so loud the powers-that-be had to listen -- they had too much to lose. Besides, democracy and economic growth are not mutually exclusive. Germany is highly democratic, but also known for industrial harmony. If they can make it work, China can, too.

@jimwong2269 Which improvements to democracy and human rights has Xi introduced? He's turning back the clock, not forward.

@jimwong2269 Xi has already had time to turn back the clock. He made himself president-for-life, purged his rivals and came up with his little red app. Increased authoritarianism and an emerging personality cult are not steps towards democracy, but rather, away from it.

Still favouring Tiananmen Square Massacre tactics, eh?
