@hamwhacker You're just in denial that "we helped to save Europe in the war" is a controversial statement if you consider the whole of Europe. Historical records clearly show how Churchill cynically paved the way for Eastern Europe to become Stalin's stomping ground. In exchange, Stalin wouldn't fuss about Britain preserving its Empire, which was just as much an affront to the Atlantic Charter. Something tells me that history is just a cherry-picking opportunity to you.

@hamwhacker You're overplaying your hand both in an economic and a historical sense. Western Europeans may owe Britain gratitude for their liberation in WW2, but the same cannot be said about Eastern Europe. To add insult to injury, Churchill sold the Eastern Europeans down the river. They've got a term for it, Western betrayal. You may want to keep that in mind next time when you feel the urge to brag.

@hamwhacker Sick-minded? It's one thing to avert WW3 just after WW2 ended, but it's quite another to toady to a ruthless dictator, giving him free rein in Eastern Europe. The Atlantic Charter, which Churchill made a mockery of, was his and Roosevelt's initiative. The irony is that Churchill sacrificing his morals was all in vain, because the British Empire still fell apart. Why? Because the Indians refused to police it. Just as ironically, Brexit is the final nail in the coffin of the British Empire. Not that it still exist, but clearly, you harbour such illusions.
