  2. ThatDutchguy Everyone is trying to get locals to fight their ground battles. Russia and France are hardly exceptional in this regard. Even Sweden has sent military trainers to train the Kurds to fight ISIS.

  3. ThatDutchguy The trouble is, Assad's regime enjoys little to no legitimacy. A civil war does that to you. And if your dear Putin was so hot on legitimacy, he'd leave Crimea and Eastern Ukraine in a hurry. But yes, Russia and before it, the Soviet Union, have done a marvellous job propping up a despotic regime in Syria. Despots have to pull together, after all.

  9. Foerdi94 Oh, but the French like bravado regardless of political affiliation. Past French socialist leaders have authorised military action many times over, so you're hardly onto a scoop here. I get that you're trying play up the leftist bias of the current government, but it's not convincing. Better try a different country if you want to berate lefties for inaction/hypocrisy. Don't forget that Tony Blair, who leapt at the chance to invade Iraq, is a leftie, too.
