CobraSFX Snake oil cures all ailments, too.

+infinitecanadian They're not encumbered by the past. The Brits in particular are prone to dwelling in the past.

CobraSFX Do have a problem with the premise that young people look ahead rather than to the past? Otherwise, spare me your NWO mumbo jumbo.

CobraSFX I'm not your son. Interestingly, Britain may have to allow more immigration to survive outside of the EU. Are you going to blame PM Boris Johnson for opening the floodgates or PM Nigel Farage for economic misery? Those seem to be your post-Brexit choices.
1
CobraSFX Er, this isn't Kansas anymore. Britain's continued survival is not at stake, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about brisk growth either. While trade negotiations drag on, perhaps we should be talking about decline, not growth. Make no mistake, you'll be taxed one way or another for trading inside the EU. If not in the form of import tariffs, then through direct contributions to the EU budget. You can ask the Norwegians and the Swiss how that works.

CobraSFX Now, you're piggy-backing on the EU for trade deals with other countries. After Brexit, they no longer apply to you. Similarly, trade deals need to be struck with the EU. Even if Brussels is nice about it, a member state like the Netherlands could suddenly decide to have a referendum. If the Dutch are in a foul mood (Oranje lost to England or some such), you're back to square one. Sure, import tariffs cut both ways, yet Brits will be hit harder by price increases than mainlanders with more suppliers to choose from. But the point is to avoid import tariffs, and allow free trade to and fro. The Swiss and the Norwegians have gotten the point and pay the EU hundreds of millions of euros for free trade privileges. Check it. I told you, no NWO nonsense.

Serra Mesa Bill Where did I suggest that import tariffs -- if it comes to those -- be used to punish Britain? But one way or another, you can count on the EU putting a stop to Britain reaping the benefits of a free EU market without paying its dues, like EU members do. Free lunches are an unfair trade practice.

Serra Mesa Bill You're not very observant. I'm not a Brit either. Farage is a populist and he tells what you want to hear. What you need to hear is another matter altogether.

Serra Mesa Bill I want no part of these snake oil salesmen that have popped up all over Europe and more recently, in the US. The formula is always the same: hate speech and conspiracy mongering. Instead of solutions, they provide scapegoats and false hope. Interestingly, giving them power has an inversely proportional effect on their popularity. Too bad Britain's electoral system doesn't favour coalitions.
