  1. Me think you're suffering from an inflated sense of self-importance. Fact is, Poland is a net recipient of EU funds, and so are your supposed allies, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. All four are still in recovery mode after decades of ruinous Communist mismanagement. Don't mistake apparent economic strength for a fundamentally sound economy.

  2. +Marcin Dobrowolski Let me rephrase. Not only do you have a hugely inflated sense of self-importance re. the Visegrad Group, but also, you have an inflated sense of how knowledgeable you are. How do you propose Poland should be bankrolled by the EU if not by improving infrastructure? By showering uncompetitive Polish companies with lavish subsidies or by putting EU money directly into the hands of individual Poles? Infrastructure spending boosts the economy both directly and indirectly. The latter should outweigh the former by far, but only if you make the investment pay for you. By sitting on your hands you can make it pay for the Germans, too. For us longer-standing EU members, having to compete with Germany is nothing new -- it's been standard practice from day one. No doubt staying out of the EU would've kept many domestic, now-defunct companies afloat, but to what end? They've been replaced by companies that can compete with the best of them, German ones and Polish ones. I wonder if you're suffering from some throwback to Communist times -- that someone, somehow will solve all your problems and if not, they're solely to blame. In your case, that someone is the EU. The EU is a framework that helps you thrive, but only if you know how to help yourself, too.

I haven't advocated Poland's departure, but it should remain an option in case Poland does make a mockery of democratic values, or pulls a Greece on us. I have a degree in political science and worked for years in Brussels. What are your credentials?
