Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "Baltic states reach agreement to severely restrict entry to Russian citizens" video.
The only way to break the political apathy of the ordinary Russians is to make them feel the consequences of their leaders' actions.

The Balts won't go bust without Russian tourists, but Russia will if it can't flog its oil and gas. The rest is just window dressing economy-wise.

@henryseidel5469 A fat lot of good it will do the Russians if they keep their gas. Without hydrocarbon exports, Russia's economy will come to a screeching halt. I suppose the green shift is a novel concept to you?

@henryseidel5469 Your personal opinions have nothing to do with you? You're an odd one. Russia clearly isn't getting what it needs from its "partners". Its industrial output is in serious decline because of a lack of parts and tooling. The likes of China and India aren't risking sanctions themselves -- they'd lose a massive market to keep a puny one. As a matter of fact, I visited St. Petersburg just before the pandemic broke out. I'm the chairperson of a charity that sponsors gifted Russians to study abroad. Sadly, they rarely if ever return. Can't blame them.

Egert Roos Language and prehistoric ancestry are closely interrelated. The Finnic tribes, including present-day Estonians, migrated westward at some point in prehistory from (or stayed put in) the Volga-Ural region, as did the Turkic tribes. Indo-Europeans, who make up the bulk of Europe's population, did the same. Sorry, nothing suggests that you're somehow special or different from the European Russians -- or any other Europeans for that matter -- in terms of your prehistoric ancestry.

They punch above their weight. How about you?

@henryseidel5469 You must think very highly of yourself if you think your personal opinion carries much weight. Russia will not find any solutions for replacing Europe as a customer for its gas. Gas pipelines don't spawn out of thin air. They take a decade to build, but even that's a hypothetical proposition, because Russia can't source the necessary technology. Without the means to exploit them, Russia's plentiful resources are as useful to Russians as they were to cavemen.

@henryseidel5469 Don't be silly. I've visited Russia yearly for over twenty years, except for the last two on account of Covid. Russia is cornered, and the saddest part is that Putin painted the country into a corner. Your naïve gum-flapping isn't going to change the fact.

Egert Roos Whether you like it or not, Russians make up 15% of Europe's total population. It's a matter of geography. Ancestral migrations don't make a difference either. Your ethnicity appears to be Baltic Finnic, which would make you Uralic as well.
1
Egert Roos What makes you European then? You're occupying the same land mass and you're literally nestled against Russia, too.
1
Egert Roos Having Tatar-Ugric or Turkic-Uralic prehistoric ancestors doesn't disqualify one from being European, not any more than you being Finno-Ugric in ancestry qualifies you as an European. There's ample evidence to suggest that the Estonians made their way westward from what is now Russia as the Ice Age subsided.

@andreikisel8846 The tourist visa ban is just one way in a whole gamut of ways to make Russians see the error of their ways. Yes, we do know better because we have been around. Travelling expands one's horizons.
