Maybe you could chop your country up into 50 independent ones, so you would no longer be the largest funder? In the process, you'd gain a more direct version of democracy, too. There, solved it for you.

@bps7209 Yeah, this is an international forum. Here, you'll have to adhere to internationally accepted definitions of 'republic' and 'democracy'. In the big wide world, the terms are not mutually exclusive. Outside of Murica, being a republic just means not having a monarch as the titular head of state, but rather, a president, but more often than not with limited powers. Parliamentarism is a big thing worldwide. You should give it a try. The present system is not really working out for you.

@bps7209 That's what political polarisation leads to. Our political parties have to keep it civil, or they'll be on the sidelines when a new coalition government needs forming, since no single party can count on an outright majority in parliament. Whether they want it or not, they have to look for compromise instead of conflict.

@bps7209 Your choice. However, smaller entities tend to do better. For instance, the top performers in the Democracy Index are all relatively small countries.
