The pound will tumble, that much is certain.

"in case"... no danger of that happening during his tenure.

It's your funeral, but I'd think playtime is over.

Derek Lowe Sure, after Trump grabs everyone by the crotch, literally and figuratively speaking.

There'll be a policeman just outside of the door, just in case.

richard smith Those seem to be your only options, bad and worse.

richard smith Speak for yourself. Your archaic FPTP system is a huge obstacle to political renewal. The extreme irony is that Farage has never made MP despite trying umpteen times, but for MEP he's a shoe-in. Which institution was supposed to be the more democratic one again?

@derektrotter4287 Prior to the referendum, Cameron was approached by many EU members to push for reform together, but Cameron rudely snubbed them. No wonder, because Cameron was out for more privileges and by definition, privileges are exclusive.

@derektrotter4287 Again, speak for yourself. Most -- if not all -- European countries, are capable of political reform -- with the notable exception of the UK. Say what you want about Macron, but he created a political party from scratch and won an election with it, all within a year's time. Compare this with the UK, where the last new entrant to manage the same is the 119-year old Labour Party. The Nordic countries wanted agricultural reform, basically to do away with all non-essential subsidies. But Cameron was loathe to jeopardize the UK's infamous rebate -- an exclusive affair that's UK-only. You couldn't blame the Nordic leaders for using words like "arrogant" and "egocentric" to describe the Brits. So the intransigence was all yours.

@derektrotter4287 It's all very simple. If you pursue national interests at the expense of those of the EU as a whole, you've got no business being in the union -- or for that matter, in any international club. That's why I'm not sad to see the UK go. My only concern is that you still somehow manage to cling on and continue to make a nuisance of yourselves.
1
@derektrotter4287 You'll be a nuisance all on your own, desperately wanting to get noticed. What did you expect, that it would be plain sailing to turn around countries like Greece, not to mention Eastern Europe after it endured half a century of communist mismanagement? The lack of solidarity alone is ample reason to disqualify UK from Project Europe. The irony is that there's no lack of solidarity among the EU-28 in matters related to Brexit. It's downright uncanny how unanimous the E-28 were in negotiating the withdrawal agreement. All British efforts at currying favour and driving wedges between the E-28 amounted to absolutely nothing. Maybe it's just us, but we'd take a cold hard look in the mirror such an instance. In contrast, you Brits still dream of unicorns.
1
@derektrotter4287 Don't flatter yourselves. It bears reminding that the UK is in the EU on the cheap. If you were right, logic would dictate that the Eastern Europeans, who actually gain from British contributions to the EU budget, would've done their utmost to sabotage the withdrawal negotiations, something they could've easily done since a single dissenting voice would've scuppered the deal. There was none of that. Face it, Britain stands alone.

Please, don't give them any ideas!

No, they'll be repoor. Just like before they joined the EEC.
