India should try appeasement. After all, you're advocating same with regard to Ukraina and Russia. If you just kowtow enough to China, it will surely change its habits. Right? Right?

@lunatic_lad But India's time-tested friend is abandoning India at the behest of this friend's new BFF: China. Russia is dependent on China for its economic survival. Like a jealous husband, China won't allow Russia to dally with India.

@UNIVERSAL-UR But India is supporting a true neo-Nazi country. Russia wants more Lebensraum and engages in wanton killings of civilians. The same cannot be said of Ukraine.

@lunatic_lad Oh, China knows better than to go head-to-head with the West. It has already become clear that China isn't jeopardising its lucrative trade with the West by fully supporting Russia. China knows it can't have it both ways. If China leaks high-tech to Russia, the companies involved get added to the sanctions list. It's an easy choice -- Russia's economy is diminutive compared to the West's. That said, China is keen to strip Russia of its natural resources at a price that it can largely set. That's true neo-colonialism. Maybe there's some therapeutic value in you sharing your past colonial experiences with Russia. It won't ease their predicament, but they won't feel so alone.

@reekreason2082 You obviously fail to understand that Russia went through a rather drastic change when the Soviet Union collapsed. If you're really concerned about Russia, or more specifically, about its people, you wouldn't be supportive of Putin's Russia, but rather, you'd encourage Russia to democratise. Isn't India, as the greatest democracy on earth, supposed to set an example? It sounds like you feel you owe the Soviet Union, and that Russia -- personified in its dictator Putin -- inherited the debt and Putin can call in said debt as he pleases. Morality be damned, eh? What troubles me most about Indian foreign policy is the obsequiousness. It must be a throwback to colonial times.

@reekreason2082 That's load of crock and you know it, too. Russians and Ukrainians are much closer to one another in just about every respect than Russians and Indians, yet the Russians and the Ukrainians are at each others' throats as we speak. I have no problem whatsoever condemning the British and US for their past colonialism. As a matter of fact, we ourselves endured colonial subjugation far longer than India, but we don't make a constant spectacle out of it. Since you like to play the hypocrisy card -- and you're such bosom friends with Russia -- why don't you make them atone for their colonial sins and return all the artifacts they looted? Moreover, the UK and the US have decolonised, but Russia by and large has not. For someone who likes to play the victim card at every opportunity, you keep strange company.

@GamerOne_me It's much worse than that. If war were to break out between China and India, Russia wouldn't provide any spares and resupplies to keep India's war machine ticking over.

@adityaajmera1963 So you're yet another Indian who reconfirms that India owed a debt to the Soviet Union, and somehow Putin inherited said debt and India will pay it off no matter what. It just reconfirms my notion that India is not yet fit to serve in the UNSC as a permanent member. You can't steer your own course because you're beholden to Russia and your morals apply to India and India alone. Sorry, we don't need obsequious navel-starers on the UNSC.

@adityaajmera1963 You level one accusation after another as if I were from... the USA. Well, surprise-surprise, I'm not. So, we're not on some acceptance committee for permanent UNSC membership, our human rights record is fine, we haven't funded any military dictatorships like ever, we were in Afghanistan to build girls' schools, in Iraq we trained the Kurds to defeat the IS, and we've never been in involved in any capacity in Bangladesh. Not only are you one to jump to conclusions, but also, you're a boring whataboutist.
