Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "Russia Ukraine war: US promises Abrams tank firepower to ally" video.
Be that as it may, Russia had to go hat in hand to Iran and scrape the barrel for wildly inaccurate anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles. If they launch ten, maybe one ends up in the general vicinity of the target.

No biggie. Ice cleats.

@Zeitgeist_Dron "Be that as it may", I wrote. Russia is bound to save some Kalibrs for its submarines and to carry nuclear warheads. But it speaks volumes that Russia knowingly misuses its increasingly scarce armaments for purposes for which they're ill-suited. It's a sign of desperation -- no two ways about it.

@Zeitgeist_Dron You're not exactly an impartial observer, it would seem. Chucking wildly inaccurate missiles at civilian targets can't be deemed sensible under any circumstances. Moreover, Hodges retired five years ago. How's his personal assessment, which is obviously not based on confidential military intel, a "big strategic blunder"?

@Zeitgeist_Dron The GPS-guided bombs behaved exactly as programmed. Their accuracy wasn't disputed by any of the parties involved. The bombs in question, JDAMs, are fit for purpose and relatively cheap, something that can't be said about Russia's S-300 surface-to-air and Kh-22 anti-ship missiles.

@Zeitgeist_Dron All manner of experts are speaking out about the war. But Hodges' opinions would only have strategic importance if he had the ear of those actually prosecuting this war. Him being a long-time retiree, there's no indication that that's the case.

@Zeitgeist_Dron If you're so greatly troubled by him, ignore him.

@Zeitgeist_Dron I haven't followed Hodges. Why would my unsubstantiated opinion on him matter?

@Zeitgeist_Dron The point is, the precision-guided bombs that struck the Chinese embassy were not inaccurate. The targeting info was, at least according to the Americans, while the Chinese suggested it was intentional. Whatever the reason, neither party claimed that the bombs veered off course. Your Chinese embassy example is nothing like Russia's desperate bombing of Ukraine with inaccurate, ill-suited and expensive ordnance. It's as if Russia is setting itself up for failure, or simply doesn't care, while the Americans try hard to avoid costly mistakes.

@Zeitgeist_Dron I don't care for him one way or the other. You, on the other hand, are obsessed with him.

Putin should sprout wings himself. This war is going to be the death of him, I'm afraid.

@AlexConnor_ There's a hitch with the Dutch Leopard 2s: they're not theirs. The Royal Netherlands Army is leasing 18 German ones (via Hurtz Rent-A-Tank, no doubt), which they'd like to buy and then give them to Ukraine. The Dutch really want to have a finger in the pie (or porridge, in double Dutch).
