  2. You're stretching it. Netanyahu is already being lambasted for flouting intelligence that would've allowed Israel to prepare. If he engineered this to flatten Gaza, he also engineered his own political downfall. I don't think we'll have to suffer Netanyahu much longer at the helm in Israel.

  3. Israel has more than once bitten the hand that fed itself, so it couldn't any longer. Destroying the Palestinians' livelihood has become their calling card. We saw them do this in Lebanon as well. No wonder the farmers' kids joined Hezbollah.

  4. Why do you think Hamas is unaware of the horns? Israel's military reprisals are nothing new. Israel is like an automaton that way. If Hamas survives -- and it probably will, be it in a greatly diminished state -- it will soon be back with even more supporters, and in the West Bank as well. That is, if Israel doesn't change tack with regard to its treatment of the Palestinians. Israel had better rekindle the peace process, too.
