Comments by "peabase" (@peabase) on "Brexit: UK rejoins EU’s Horizon science programme" video.
It turned out the UK didn't need the EU to throw the NHS under the bus. The UK alone deserves full credit.

@manuelromeroarcos8160 Newsflash, the British Isles lie on the European continental shelf. Your long-suffering geography teacher would facepalm at you.
4
Don't you worry. We'll make sure to keep you at arm's length.

Are you referring to the communication company which is majority-owned by Indian, French, Japanese and Korean companies? More shares are in EU hands than in British hands, to be exact.
3
@zorjo The "continent of uk"? Are you for real? The Britsh Isles lie firmly on the European continental shelf.

@manuelromeroarcos8160 Sort of tough, that one. Just as hard as getting Russia out. Geographical boundaries are what they are.

Sorry, we can't let you back in before you've dealt with the likes of Johnson, Reese-Mogg and Farage. Mind you, you don't have to chop off their heads and mount them on London Bridge, but just deal with them politically, OK?
2
@Gamer_Sebby That's what I was implying with "politically". While at it, you may want to get rid of FPtP and introduce d'Hondt. And learn quickly how to form successful coalition governments.
2
@Gamer_Sebby I studied political science as part of a double major, the other being history. Political renewal can be notoriously slow, especially in the UK, but you had your chance and you blew it. In 2011, you decided to keep FPtP despite sound advice to the contrary, just like you botched the 2016 Brexit referendum. Either you Brits are no good with referendums, or you're just very conservative, as in rejecting change -- or reality -- as a matter of course.

@markperrin8098 I'm a habitual BBC World Service listener. That's where most of the wailing came from. The fact of the matter is that the UK economy has been underperforming since 2020. The post-pandemic GDP bounce-back has been stronger in the Eurozone than in the UK, with Germany being the only exception. The Germans are paying the piper for their Russia-centric energy policy. Still, I'm confident that Germany will only emerge stronger from their energy crisis. After all, they don't have to contend with endemic problems like the UK's low productivity. It seems you've been out of elbow grease for quite some time now.
2
@markperrin8098 So, instead of arguing your own case, you decided to bolster mine. OK, I don't mind.

@hawklord100 It's of secondary importance where the company is based. What matters is who rules the roost. Hint: the majority does.

@hawklord100 OpenWeb's management team is Israeli-Chinese. The board of directors is American-Israeli-Canadian. I can't see a single Brit in a top spot at OpenWeb. BMW is majority-owned by German entities, with billionaire siblings Stefan Quandt and Susanne Klatten as the biggest shareholders. The Germans are very particular that way. As an investor myself, I investigate these things on a daily basis. Just flexing my muscles here.

@@jamesross8992 Don't flatter yourselves unduly. Britain is stuck with an archaic electoral system. Its failings are all too apparent in one Mr. Farage always being a shoo-in for the European Parliament, but never for the House of Commons. And he has tried so hard.

The researchers are harmless. It's not like we're letting in incompetent and toxic British leaders, who've twice proven themselves as such. First they made Brexit happen. Then they turned it into an utter shambles.
1
@markperrin8098 I beg to disagree. The wailing from the British side of the Channel grew much louder when Brexit kicked in.

@kurtgodel5236 You're talking to a conspiracy theorist. They slalom around facts.
