@node33 The winter of 1939-40 was especially harsh. My grandfather fought in the Battle of Tolvajärvi, obviously on the victorious Finnish side. It's widely known that the Finnish defenders made full use of the wintery conditions by blocking and isolating the Soviet invaders, who then largely succumbed to frostbite. The Battle of Raate Road is a prime example. When Khrushchev denounced Stalin, he called the Winter War a "moral defeat" for the Soviet Union. Yeltsin called it a "war of aggression" on the USSR's part. You must have missed the OP's comment, which lauded winter as Russia's most decorated general. I made the comment that his General Winter did very poorly indeed in the Winter War. Have you always struggled with reading comprehension?

@whyuhatan Yeah, but saner minds, like Khrushchev and after him, Yeltsin, lamented ever starting the war. It is said that the USSR gained enough ground to bury its dead.

@node33 Your reading comprehension problem is acting up once more. The Battle of Tolvajärvi was decisively won by the Finns. So was the Battle of Raate Road --verrry decisively. 1945? The Winter War lasted from 30 November 1939 to 13 March 1940. You clearly don't know your wars. Yet you tell me I don't know anything. You go off on all manner of tangents, none of which have anything to do with the matter at hand. You seem to need an audience for your incoherent TLDR ramblings. Look elsewhere.
