@mark_sugar42 The Dutch navy acquitted itself well in the Battle of the Afsluitdijk, where a Dutch gunboat silenced the German artillery before an attack on a fortress that protected the causeway. Consequently, the German attack failed miserably. The battle marked a rare defeat for the Germans at a time when they chalked up victory after victory. The very same gunboat, the HNLMS Johan Maurits van Nassau, was also instrumental in preventing the Germans from making use of a crucial airport near Rotterdam.

@jpht1964 The Fokker D.XXI became obsolete very quickly in Finland, too. It could only hold its own against the Soviet I-16 and I-153 by diving away from them. I've met several war-time Finnish fighter pilots, all of whom spoke fondly of the Brewster Buffalo and the Bf-109, but none extolled the Fokker.

@m.h.b.3828 Had Fokker been sold to Canada's Bombardier under more attractive conditions in 1996, Fokker would now live on as Airbus.
