I second that. Somewhat ironically, the Soviets got their wooden fighters right, although the Finns where the pioneers in manufacturing and using weather-resistant plywood. It's just that the crucial ingredient, phenolic resin, couldn't be had during the war.

@annoyingbstard9407 Not true. There's no confusion about the matter whatsoever. We haven't made ourselves any halos. I'm not sure you can say the same.

The Pyörremyrsky would've just as easily fallen apart because of the poor glue.

The Soviets certainly did, as Ed correctly explained. My gramps was at Ägläjärvi to throw them back. They did extremely well, too, destroying the whole attacking division despite being heavily outnumbered.

@athelwulfgalland Finland specifically relied on Germany as a source for phenolic resin glue. It's interesting that you should mention the Mosquito. Plans were afoot in Finland to reverse-engineer the Mosquito and fit it with Daimler-Benz engines, but then the war came to an end.

@gwtpictgwtpict4214 Read the whole thread. You were (unwittingly?) lending credence to a posited theory that Finland is actively ignoring unflattering aspects of its war-time past. There's no indication of that. On the contrary, Finland should be applauded for its brutal honesty. Only the Germans out-self-criticize the Finns, but they have more material to work with.

@ivancho5854 Finland couldn't even source it from Germany. And Sweden was just as cut off trade-wise.

@gwtpictgwtpict4214 Not you too. Generally speaking, I find it advisable to know something about a topic before commenting on it. Finland's post-war Communists tried their utmost to tar their political opponents with a Fascist brush. Everything was brought out in the open. Maybe you can provide concrete examples of what has been missed? I have a degree in history from one of the leading universities in Finland, so I can help you out if we need to do some fact-checking.

@gwtpictgwtpict4214 "The history is there if you look, but I understand why in general it's quietly ignored. My enemies enemy is my friend is not a new concept, but when you enemies enemy is Nazi Germany well, you may not want to bring attention to that." Your words not mine.

@FyodorUshakovSuka Don't be a persereikä. On what grounds are you calling me Soviet? I noted that the Soviets were more successful in keeping their wooden fighters in one piece. All that is perfectly corroborated by facts. Finnish facts, too.

@FyodorUshakovSuka Obvious, you say... you were not jumping, but leaping to conclusions.

@FyodorUshakovSuka There's nothing about your little lecture that qualifies as an eye-opener, I'm afraid.

@gwtpictgwtpict4214 You were clearly insinuating that Finland's co-belligerence with Nazi Germany can't stand the light of day and hence, it's only natural that Finns have kept mum about it, because that's only human nature. That simply is not true. If some hitherto unknown aspect were to come to light about Finland's war record, no matter how controversial, domestic media would be all over it. Research grants would be made available and the exact nature of the events would be researched for years and years. Books would be written, endless reviews would follow, history magazines would sell out on supermarket newsstands, etc, etc. In your shoes, I would also be mindful of the company that you keep. Even an amateur historian shouldn't want to be associated with the obvious troll in this thread.
